The 2026-2027 Dota 2 season has a clear protagonist. Team Yandex, following their stellar performance at PGL Wallachia Season 9, have cemented their status as the team to beat by claiming the BLAST SLAM VIII championship in Malta.
In a grand final that served as a masterclass in adaptation, Yandex dismantled the reigning International champions, Team Spirit, with a convincing 3-1 series victory. While the scoreboard might suggest a straightforward win, the reality on the server was far more intense. Spirit drew first blood, taking the opening map in a dominant 40-minute display that left little room for error. However, the momentum shifted decisively afterward.
Yandex showcased the tactical depth that has defined their recent run. Led by their high-impact offlaner Ammar "ATF" Al-Assaf—whose acquisition has proven to be the most influential roster move of the post-TI shuffle—the team flipped the script in the subsequent three maps. Whether through superior teamfight decision-making or precise objective control, Yandex systematically neutralized Spirit’s threats to secure the $270,000 top prize.
This victory is more than just another trophy for the cabinet. By winning both PGL Wallachia and BLAST SLAM VIII, Yandex have swept the first two major tournaments of the season. For the rest of the professional circuit, this creates an immediate crisis of confidence. Teams are now forced to scramble for answers against a roster that currently looks untouchable in high-stakes environments.
For Team Spirit, the result is a bitter pill, yet not entirely unexpected. Competing without their long-time offlaner Magomed "Collapse" Khalilov and featuring a fresh lineup, their run to the grand final remains a testament to their resilience. However, the gap between the runners-up and the current kings of the scene is clear.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on whether any squad can disrupt the Yandex dominance. If you are looking to track their next moves or see how the odds shift for upcoming events, check out our MyEsports predictions for the latest insights.
