The atmosphere at the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai reached a fever pitch on August 21, 2026, as Team Yandex pulled off a result that few saw coming. In a high-stakes Upper Bracket Semifinal at The International 2026, they dismantled the momentum of Nigma Galaxy, securing a hard-fought 2-1 series victory.
This win is a massive statement for Team Yandex. After a shaky campaign that left many analysts questioning their consistency, the squad proved they have the mental fortitude to perform when the Aegis is on the line. By disrupting Nigma Galaxy’s win streak, they didn't just advance—they cemented their status as a legitimate contender for the title.
A Hard-Fought Victory
The series was a tactical chess match. Nigma Galaxy entered the matchup as the favorites, riding a wave of confidence, but Team Yandex’s draft flexibility proved to be the difference-maker. Every map was a grueling contest, with Yandex showing superior discipline in the late-game scenarios that define TI champions. While Nigma Galaxy had their moments of brilliance, the cohesion from the Yandex roster ultimately forced their opponents into the Lower Bracket.
For Nigma Galaxy, this loss is a bitter pill to swallow. Despite their dominant form leading up to this point, they were unable to contain the pressure applied by their opponents in the deciding third map. They now face a treacherous path through the Lower Bracket, where the margin for error is non-existent.
What Comes Next
With this victory, Team Yandex has secured a Top 3 finish at the tournament, punching their ticket to the Upper Bracket Finals. They are now set to face Team Vision, a team that has also been defying expectations throughout the event.
