The landscape in Warsaw is shifting as the group stage of the Logitech G Play Connect 2026 concludes. While established names struggled to find their footing in the Polish capital, Luminosity managed to navigate a chaotic final day to secure their spot in the knockout stage.
Luminosity’s path to the playoffs was anything but straightforward. Finishing the group stage with a 3-2 record, the team faced immense pressure during their final matches. A commanding 13-4 victory against M80 on Ancient, followed by a tense 13-11 win over Ninjas in Pyjamas, proved to be the deciding factor. This final result was crucial; had they faltered, a three-way tie would have left them on the outside looking in. Aleks "Rainwaker" Petrov was instrumental in this run, posting a 1.22 rating across the five maps, with Aurélien "afro" Drapier providing consistent support.
The tournament has been a showcase for Eastern European talent. Both B8 and Inner Circle dominated their respective groups, with B8 advancing to the semifinals without dropping a single map—a feat that has cemented their status as a genuine threat in the bracket.
For other organizations, the event has been a harsh reality check. Team Liquid, already competing without Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa and head coach Viktor "flashie" Tamás Bea, struggled to adapt. Despite having Jay "DeMars DeRover" Li behind them as a stand-in coach and Vladan "VLDN" Radević filling the roster gap, the team could not overcome their early deficits, finishing with a 2-3 record and an early exit. Similarly, Ninjas in Pyjamas saw their campaign collapse, leaving them with significant questions to answer as the season progresses.
With the group stage now in the rearview mirror, the focus shifts to the bracket at EXPO XXI. Luminosity will look to carry their momentum into the next round, but they face a steep climb against the top-seeded teams waiting in the wings.
