The stage is set in Shanghai. With the conclusion of the VCT Stage 2 playoffs, the 16 teams heading to VALORANT Champions 2026 have officially locked in their spots. From September 24 to October 18, the best squads from the Americas, EMEA, Pacific, and China will collide in a $2,250,000 showdown that marks the final international event of the season.
The Contenders to Watch
Heading into the tournament, the conversation is dominated by those who proved their mettle during the final stretch of the regional circuits. 100 Thieves enters as a clear favorite, bolstered by their VCT Americas Stage 2 title and a dominant performance at the Esports World Cup. Their disciplined macro play and consistent high-pressure execution make them the team to beat in Group A.
Meanwhile, the Pacific region has seen a massive surge in form. Global Esports arrives with significant momentum after their dramatic reverse sweep against Nongshim RedForce in the Pacific Stage 2 Grand Final. Their ability to adapt their agent pool under pressure has turned them into a dark horse that few opponents will want to face early in the bracket.
In the host region, JD Gaming is carrying the weight of home-field expectations. Their aggressive, high-octane style is designed to punish methodical teams, and playing in front of a Chinese crowd could provide the spark they need to navigate a tough group.
Group Stage Dynamics
The group draw has set the scene for some explosive opening matches. Group C looks particularly brutal, featuring a mix of tactical heavyweights and explosive rosters like Paper Rex, who remain a perennial threat on the international stage.
For those looking to track the action, you can stay updated on all matches as the tournament progresses. Whether you are finalizing your Pick'Ems or just tuning in for the storylines, the depth of talent this year suggests that the path to the trophy will be anything but straightforward.
